Hi everyone,

The units have now left the factory and are on the way to our office in Taiwan.

We’ll be conducting some inspections on the packaging once they arrive, and then will begin the process of fulfilling the orders. Shipping will begin early next week for backers and pre-orders.We will be doing this by zones (USA, Europe, Asia, etc.) and you will be receiving an email from us with the tracking link so that you can check on your shipment’s status.

You should be receiving your tracking code via email soon.

Thank you for your extended patience on this matter, the logistics process has been trying during this time, and has been both an educational and humbling experience.

We’re looking forward to the Pangolins arriving at your doorstep.

Thanks,
TeamRed

Hi everyone,

We’ve got some good news from the factory. After initiating an initial ten-piece sample test earlier in the week, the boards were cleared by the DIP, QA, and QC process. Green light was given to go ahead with the final stages of mass production and assembly.

That mass production is ongoing now, and that means we are on the final legs of that process. Once all of the remaining boards finish the DIP process, we’ll have a working PCBA. After this, we’ll be testing the firmware and completing the assembly process with the shells, and will begin shipping out the units. Our team continues to work daily together with the factory during the entire process in order to ensure the timeliness of this final leg.

We’ll be updating you again soon after we’ve completed the final assembly and QA process, and to notify you when units begin to ship. We will be sharing an update here and also individually getting in touch with all of our backers and pre-order customers with the tracking code for your packages.

Thanks,

TeamRed

Hi everyone,

As we’re getting prepared to start shipping units to everyone, we wanted to give you a quick update on what’s happening at the factory.

We were in constant communication with the factory last week. We required daily progress updates, and our schedule was set last Wednesday (July 29). On the evening of July 30, the factory had told us that they had moved the DIP schedule to the following Monday (August 3rd). This came as a major surprise to our team as we were confident that all hurdles have been cleared the previous week. William, who oversees communications with the factory, felt it was not the time to challenge the factory but instead set out to find out what really happened.

Upon further investigation, we found that all 3000 shells were complete and awaiting assembly.

However, the factory decided to delay the DIP schedule by a couple of days due to a small flow mark on the top shell caused by the injection process. The flow mark is barely visible to the naked eye. The factory engineers feared that if they had ignored this, it would eventually cause more damage as more units were produced.

This came as a surprise to us because we weren’t consulted by anyone at the factory first. [DC1] The engineers at the factory had volunteered to work throughout the weekend in order to correct this flow mark with a hard deadline for August 3 Monday.

However, this was no major delay and we’re still working toward sending out the units after completing assembly this week.

We understand that you’re all waiting patiently for news about when the shipments have been sent out, and we will continue to update you with the latest news.

Do keep a lookout in your email inboxes for the shipping confirmation emails, as they will contain the tracking code so you can keep tabs on where your Pangolin is.

Thanks,

Hi everyone,

Here’s the latest update on our manufacturing status.

The DIP process is about to go underway, after a request for replacement ethernet port components was completed. Our quality control factory noticed some flaws in the original ethernet components that were delivered, but the new set of components has arrived. There was some slight surface damage and pin bends, which is why a fresh batch of parts was requested.

Bent pins on some pieces of the initial ethernet components.
Some slight structural damage on the side of ethernet components that we deemed unacceptable.

The DIP process should be completed by Wednesday, July 29, and then we have requested that the factory works overtime over this weekend in order to complete assembly by next week.

After the completion of assembly, we’ll then be starting to ship out the units to Kickstarter backers and those who pre-ordered their units on our website after the campaign.

During this time, we’ll be sending individual emails to all backers / pre-orders that will contain the tracking number so that you can keep an eye out on your shipment as it leaves Taiwan.

For Kickstarter backers, we have noticed that a small number of people (12 in total) still have not filled in their addresses on their backer surveys. We’ve sent a follow-up email to those individuals again last week, and we’ll be needing your addresses to mail the Pangolin. So, if you haven’t finished that backer survey yet, please remember to do so by this week!

Thanks,

Hi everyone,

As we discussed earlier this week, the manufacturing process has now begun. We wanted to give you another update about how things are going.

We're currently working on the Surface-mount Technology (SMT) stage, and are in the verification stage. We'll be following up with the Dual in-line package (DIP) next week, which will be followed by assembly, MP testing, and then packaging and shipping.

The SMT machine.
Our partner engineer making the verification tool which will be used to verify the hardware signal of the PCBA board after DIP finishes.

Things are going according to schedule so far, and we'll continue to update you with more news about manufacturing next week.

Have a great weekend,

TeamRed
