Hi everyone,

We've got some great news!

We received the latest sample from our manufacturing partner a couple of days ago, and now that we've managed to take a look at the physical copy (after being sent the photos earlier in the week) we're happy to say that we've given the green light to start manufacturing this week.

We'll be producing both the shells and the boards this week, and then should be shipping the Pangolin units off before the end of July. We'll be informing you here when the units start to ship.

We know it's been a long road this year, especially due to the worldwide pandemic. We'd like to thank all of you again for your patience and support. We're almost at the finish line, and we're excited!

Thanks,

TeamRed

Hi everyone,

We've got good news. After looking at the latest images from our engineer, and there were marked improvements in the smoothness of the shell.

We are awaiting the arrival of the final samples for a check, but are confident in manufacturing next week.

We'll have an update again for you during the weekend. We should be beginning PCBA manufacturing next week as well, and we'll share photos from that process too.

Thanks,

TeamRed

Hi everyone,

We wanted to give you an update.

The situation currently is that our software is complete for both the device and our iOS and Android apps. They’re ready to go and we’re also ready to start with the PCBA production and assembly. Printing of the packaging is also under way. The assembly, quality check, and review lines are also ready. The final hurdle to clear were the review and approval of the shell samples for the Pangolin device itself.

After receiving the T2 samples, we went ahead with the review process with a lot of optimism, but ultimately we were disappointed with the quality of what was sent to us.

Seeing minor errors in the T2 sample, like the scuff marks here, made us uncomfortable with forcing the mass production run.

What was the challenge?

Our mechanical designer and the counterparty’s mechanical designer are forced to work in a remote situation due to the COVID situation which yielded sub-optimal results and slow iterations of the test samples. After a number of long conversations over the last week and a half with our manufacturing partners we’ve had to make the tough but necessary call to tell them that we’re forcing a full review of the manufacturing process.

How are we going to rectify and speed up the iteration process?

We have requested our manufacturing partner to speed up their process and increase their attention to even the minutest of details. Further to this, we have requested them to share high resolution images of the newly minted sample to our mechanical designer ASAP in order to verify the quality immediately, as opposed to waiting a few days on shipping. Together with working even closer with our manufacturing partner, we aim to speed up iteration of samples and rectify the observed flaws in the previous T2 sample.

The consequence

Unfortunately, this means that the mass production date has been pushed back by a few weeks. We are now looking at a shipping date in July as we work even closer with our manufacturing partners.

However, the shell flaws are just as important to fix. We refuse to take anything less than a job well done from our internal team, and we expect the same from our partners, so we’re taking them to task about this.

We appreciate your understanding in our decision to delay the mass production of the Pangolin device due to the quality of the shell sample. We strive and work to give you the best quality that we can. And we have nothing but the utmost appreciation of your support.

Thank you for your patience,

TeamRed

Hi everyone,

We hope you’ve all been well.

As you may have guessed, we’ve been busy working with our manufacturing partners to get things up and running at the factory.

We found some minor flaws in the mold, which had to be addressed, and so we’ve been working closely with the mechanical engineers to fix them.

They were minor, and mostly cosmetic in nature, but we are committed to bring you the best product that we can, and so want to eliminate even minor flaws in the shell.

The specific problems we wanted to fix were:

  • A slight raise in the bottom panel.
  • The hook used to hold the power panel in place lifts a little bit too much, instead of just being 90 degrees.

Fortunately, our partners also hold themselves up to high standards, so they’ve been laboring to fix the problems. We have received our T2 samples and are evaluating them tomorrow. If all is good with them, then we will give the green light to start mass production!

Stay tuned in this channel. We’ll be updating you about the latest progress as soon as we’ve got more news.

Thanks,

Team Red

Update: June 2 2020
almost 4 years ago – Tue, Jun 02, 2020 at 12:08:41 AM

Hi everyone,

We’ve hit the month of June, and that means we’re now officially about to hit our mass production run! We’re making the final preparations with our manufacturing partners and are looking forward to shipping your pre-order units later this month.

It’s been a long and challenging road, especially with COVID-19 having changed so many things about how we’ve all had to work and live on a day-to-day basis.

However, we’re glad that we’re finally getting near the finish line. All of us have spent many sleepless nights to build Pangolin, and we wouldn’t have been able to reach our goal of getting the device to the masses without your support.

We’d like to again thank all of those who showed faith in our vision and supported us. None of this would have been possible without you.

Thanks,

Team Red
